Sarah Sanders, Founder

I was driving to church, and there she was sitting. Matted hair, dirty as could be, and all alone on the bench, and then the empathy hit me like never before. I felt her pain and her heartbreak. I just wept and wept the whole way to church. Praying, Lord, please just help her. I need you to help her at that moment. He was planting a seed, the seed of compassion and empathy.

Over time, I saw this lady everywhere I turned, and I couldn't avoid her; every time I wept. I talked about her to anyone who would listen. In these conversations, I learned about the encampment in our neighborhood of unhoused individuals.

There God was planting another seed. September 1st came, and the church called, saying they were closed due to an overload. Did I want to take it down to the encampment? So I said yes, and little did I know that weeping Valley had just begun.

Seeing God's children living like this, I knew something had to be done. The hardest trials of my life began, and at that very moment, I was sitting there in the hotel room, crying all alone in the driest moment of my life, feeling defeated, hopeless, and run down. I sat at the little desk and did all I knew how to do: I opened my Bible and prayed, 'Lord, I need you.'

I look down and read Psalm 84:6 “What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on traveling to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings,” and that was the day he told me to serve his people.

By sewing a seed and naming it WEEPING VALLEY, where dry places become the springs of living Water. In Weeping Valley, our mission isn’t just about giving to the unhoused; it’s about showing dignity and compassion and seeing the unseen.
